I Stole This Song

I cannot tell a lie. I stole this song. I tried it on and I had to have it.
I read your mind and I plagiarized. I thought, “I could have thought that.”
I broke the glass to get passed the shop window—a sharp window when I broke it in.
I turned the book that turned the bookcase, I found your hidden face, deep within.

The first verse of this song came to me in a personally unpredcedented, spontaneous stream of thought. In the shower. I scrambled to write it down (post shower) because I liked the idea.

I'm not a guy your safe is safe from. I don't need the combination.

Try as you might, there’s no use in guarding your heart–
I'm good at safecracking.
I’ll get the password, I'll walk in backward,
I know the turns in attitude, and I’ll be leaving with you.

I saw you standing by the bar,
you looked as if you thought you owned the place.
I walked up to say, “I’ve got a plane, I named it Yesterday,
cause time and I just seem to get away.”
I get so bored with a safe bet,
that’s why I liked you from the moment that we first met.
You’re like, “State your business.”
And I’m like, “Wow, who is this? This diamond needs lifting.”

I don't own plane. But if I did, I do like the name.
