Supernova
There’s a blaze on the skyline, a fire hungry for land
I heard the radio station, they said the time is at hand
I’ve danced with Destiny, baby, she didn’t do me so wrong,
But she was better when I met her in a meadow in an old Leonard Cohen song.
So keep the motor going, and put the car in drive, it does 185.
Hold on tight, I feel like learning to fly.
Up here, we can look
side-long at the end of the road,
acting like we never knew what nobody knows
about bright lights, the night sky, the supernova we used to be.
A nod to Joe Walsh’s Maserati
We used to be. The current theory is that heavy elements like iron and calcium were created inside stars before being spread around the universe. By that logic, we literally used to be a Supernova, or as Carl Sagan put it, “We are all star stuff”.
My city lit up and laid out, the world is burning tonight.
It’s the way that you fade out, it’s the power of time.
I saw Reality, baby, she wasn’t so hard to find.
She dropped the science when I sat down in the silence
I’d been running from all my life
You can’t win if it’s Time that your heart is racing,
She’s always running away
Then all of sudden She’s all that your facing.
