The Love of May
My car was freezing on the February morning
I figured out that you would not be mine.
I miss my cigarettes, I wish for something better,
I know that things like these can take some time.
One year gone by and even still I find your eyes can knock me down.
Though I play it cool, standing next to you, I'm ten feet off the ground.
This song marks the end of the “I'll never have you” era. It continues to be followed by the “You will love me” era.
I fight through a tear to see you go,
I painted angels on the interstate to help you find your way.
In the road another turn, I've been laughing at the things I've learned,
what I did not discern.
The interstate part was from a rather vivid daydream.
I hear San Diego is like a dream in every season.
I'll leave my overcoat behind...
I shuffle sideways to the subtle taste of leaving.
I know I barely cross your mind.
I have since confirmed that San Diego is a like dream all year round.
There is no end to the things I've left behind in various lyrics over the years.
The love of May will never make through this winter.
I felt I could not carry on
I make allusions to the travel in my veins -
that's how I say that I'm long gone...
